Poem

Sun for others

August 26, 2025

I didn't know until she showed me that I did
Not a walk in the park, but a run through embers
If I could go back, I would
But then we'd never have met, would we?

Is it better to have loved than to have never loved at all if the seeing spoils you?
I fear being the one that got away, and the one that never leaves another's heart despite distance
I'm glad to be the elixir, if not in a world that contains no other

But if there is none?
A sadder life than only one
I'd rather known and have lost the sun,
Than to have never known it at all

Does the sun wish for us to find its warmth in others?
It's light in our eyes?
It's rhythm in the coming and goings of loved ones?
Should I not long to be the brightness in someone's heart, if only for a moment?

What else is there to be?
What else matters?
